Country Profile : DRC Water

A contract awarded to Weihai International Economic & Technical Cooperative (WIETC) aims to construct a drinking water plant with a capacity of 110,000 cubic meters a day plus an intake in the Congo River that flows through the capital of the DRC.The entire project is to be completed in 23 months and is financed by the government through a loan World Bank loan of US $59.4M. The industrial water treatment complex project is part of the Urban Drinking Water Supply Project (Pemu) that seeks to increase sustainable access to water in the cities of Kinshasa, Lubumbashi and Matadi would need an overall investment of US $360M. The DRC continues to build it's water power capacity.

The DRC is the most water-rich country in Africa. It accounts for approximately 52 percent of Africa’s surface water reserves and 23 percent of Africa’s internal renewable water resources.
